Community build playground projects have received a lot of attention over the past few years. According to the Community Built Association, the term Community Build refers to “the interactive process that involves the local community in the design, organization and creation of community projects.” The payoff, according to the Association, is a permanent transformation of the environment that becomes a “priceless symbol of the community spirit behind” each project.
A community build playground usually involves a number of people that volunteer their time and efforts to come together and build a playground for their community, school, childcare center, special needs facility or any other playground needy facility or neighborhood.
The resulting playground projects are typically larger and have more play events than those that are constrained by typical budgets and construction costs. More of the budget can be spent on quality playground equipment and much less needs to be spent with contractors. Often, when local residents gather together to spearhead a playground project, these projects gain more strength and financial support from the community, making them hugely successful efforts that could not happen without such collaboration and vision.
It will take some strong leadership and planning for individuals in your organization in order to perform a successful build. While we can't do all the work for you, we can guide the process and offer suggestions and planning tips to assure you have a successful outcome.
